One Hundred Views of Maiko and Geiko is a collection of color photographs taken in all five of Kyoto’s geisha districts over a four-year period from 2003 – 2006. The book features candid portraits of smiling maiko and geiko (a rare sight), night views illuminated by streetlamps and lanterns, scenes in the rain, and images taken at several of Kyoto’s festivals. Many of the photographs focus on the beautiful and elaborate kimono, obi (sash), kanzashi (hair ornaments), and okobo (wooden clogs) the maiko and geiko wear. The text is in both English and Japanese.
